Shinola Opens in Silverlake

Slowly and steadily, Detroit-based Shinola has been bringing back America. With a flagship in New York (as well as one its hometown, of course), the brand has opened up five locations worldwide — that international location happens to be in London — but they haven’t landed on the West Coast. Tomorrow, the line will officially open its Silverlake store, finally bringing a flagship store — and all of the wares within — to California.

Hipster haven Silverlake is already home to some of L.A.’s coolest retail shops such as Mohawk General Store and Clare Vivier’s first shop, so Shinola will be rubbing shoulders with some of the coolest brands around. Sitting pretty between Aesop and the newly opened Mollusk Surf Shop, the 1,100 square foot flagship location will bring the entire breadth of Shinola under one roof. The line, which started as a shoe polish line, has grown to include watches — what you probably think of now when you hear Shinola — bicycles, leather goods, journals, pet accessories and more. And all of it is made in America.

The brand even caught the attention of Oscar de la Renta, who enlisted the American watchmakers to create a special run of watches available with Oscar’s signature latticework. There’s no word on whether or not some of those 1,000 special watches will be available at the new Silverlake store, but we can be sure that there will be plenty to look at when it opens its doors, especially with the line’s ever-expanding leather goods offerings and tech accessories.

Shinola Silverlake is located at 3515 West Sunset Boulevard, in Los Angeles. For more information, visit www.shinola.com.
