We’re big fans of going green — and that means more than just grabbing a reusable tote and buying a bottle of super juice. When it comes to home design, a perfect way to go green is by adding a fabulous plant to the mix. Admittedly, for many years we weren’t fans of plants- save for the always-elegant orchid. The other ones just conjured up thoughts of Little Shop of Horrors houses teeming with everything from overgrown spindly varieties to those starter plants in jars of water, roots exposed. No thanks.
But then over the past several years, succulents took hold indoors (not your mom’s favorite jade plant) instead of just in the garden and we fell in love with their great architectural lines, longevity and hassle-free nature.
- Even succulents need water, so remember to give yours two tablespoons of water about every 10 days.
- “If you want to keep your succulents in their container permanently, they will need drainage,” said Chadwick.
- Plants and succulents thrive in light, so place them in a sunny spot. If you’ve got a room that doesn’t get much sun, opt for green plants instead of grey-tinged ones, they’re more likely to survive in low light.
