The Bucket Bag is Back

A symbol of the swinging ’70s, the slouchy drawstring bucket bag is back in a big way. Call it the Mansur Gavriel effect, but ladies everywhere are eschewing hardware-heavy It Bags for a more relaxed take on accessorizing. The summer calls for a switch from ladylike satchels and serious saffiano work totes and bucket bags are letting girls everywhere loosen up.

The bags were a disco era staple and of course, Louis Vuitton designed the Noe bag long before that, but the shape made a resurgence when Coach reissued its classic bucket-shaped duffle bag a few years ago. The bag, which was actually an archive reissue, suddenly looked fresh with its lack of logos, locks and gleaming gold extras. Other designers followed, including the aforementioned Mansur Gavriel girls, who introduced a bucket bag style to their lineup of luxe totes and pouches. Alexander Wang’s Diego bag was spotted on style bloggers everywhere and now, every designer has their take on the iconic silhouette. So whether you prefer to go luxe with croc embossing or want a sweet-hued candy-colored take on the trend, there’s no time like now to let your grown-up bags take a season off and embrace the summer’s slouchy, relaxed bucket bags. Best of all, these roomy bags are built to hold everything you need and more — much, much more.
