The Short List: November 2011

Squeezing in your magazine reads at quick trips for mani/pedis or the dentist?  We’ve done the flipping for you and found the best of this month’s issues so you can make the most of your flipping when you’re on the go!

Elle Magazine Nov. 2011

Ever want to be part of Chanel’s extravagant Cruise shows? In Escape to the Antibes (page 128), Elle takes you behind the scenes with Vanessa Paradis, one of the faces behind the double-C’s makeup line.

And just in time for resort, designers are making a splash with the debut their swim offering. For the first time, Chris Benz, Alexander Wang, and Jason Wu are dressing bathing beauties (page 190).

Fall for fragrance? The magazines want you to think so. Elle guides you through choosing your own (fragrance) adventure, whether you’re strong or silent (page 244).

Want to know more about the beauties behind Marchesa? A designer profile closes the issue with plenty of sparkle and tulle (page 359).

Harper's Bazaar Nov. 2011

Harper’s Bazaar:

Harper’s gives you a double-dose of the Nautical trend (Resort is sometimes called called Cruise, after all), choosing the best of the resort collections from bags to baubles and YSL’s anchor-belted trench (page 98 and 109).

Hermés built its brand on saddles, but they’re just as known for outfitting the world’s jetsetters. They’re going green by showcasing pieces made from remnants and extra materials in a traveling exhibit that’s hitting the world’s hautest cities (page 124).

Bazaar’s spin on fragrance is a little more in-depth (page 185), pairing scent with your personality and suggesting a few must-have pieces from fall’s collections that would fit right in.

The Scorcese photo portfolio is a show-stopping collection of celeb portraits (page 241) paying homage to his greatest films.

Vogue Nov. 2011

For once, Vogue’s Steal of the Month (page 196) is something anyone can afford: Emma Stone extolls the virtues of Revlon’s new Lip Butters – she’s the brand’s newest face – a moisturizing lipstick that’s just $8.

In one of the prettiest spreads we’ve seen in a long time, Brighton Beach pastels take center stage in Swept Away (page 298), where idyllic sun-bleached scenes have us reaching for our copy of Atonement.

And of course, there’s a nautical trend piece (page 242).

Get a peek of the next generation of designers in the Vogue/CFDA Fund story (page 284), so you won’t be scratching your head next time you see Atuzarra or Antonio Azzuolo on the racks.

Marie Claire Nov 2011

Marie Claire:

Surprise! There’s a maritime spread in this month’s MC, too. Check out their navy-and-white, horizontal striped suggestions (page 78).

Ready for another perfume spread? It’s mostly pictures, not the choose-your-own-adventure in the other issues, but we can’t resist the new Bottega eau (page 205).

Miss JustCavalli? It’s back — so prepare your fall wardrobe with picks from the line (page 194).

Our favorite? The magazine’s In the Bag feature, which details diva Miss Piggy this month — she’s best friends with Marc Jacobs, FYI (page 242).
