Monday Muse: Juicy Couture Is Back

Juicy Couture returned to the New York Fashion Week calendar this year after disappearing from the lineup and just about everyone’s minds. Sure, there was a revival via Kohl’s and a special label available at department stores, but the label that brought comfort and celebrity tracksuits to the forefront came back for real under the creative direction of Jamie Mizrahi. The L.A.-based celebrity stylist, who counts Riley Keough, Suki Waterhouse, Pretty Little Liar Ashley Benson, Katy Perry, Kate Upton, ex-Rachel Zoe acolyte Nicole Richie, Eva Mendes, and Britney Spears among her clients, is at the helm and she’s injected the ’00s mainstay with a jolt of new energy.

“I am not trying to reinvent Juicy,” Mizrahi told WWD when the brand announced her role back in August. “It has such a brand identity already — carefree, tongue-in-cheek fashion. What I’m doing is taking the history that is so special and continuing to make it feel fun and wearable by bringing back silhouettes and materials and making them work for the modern woman.”

To do just that, she took a bit of inspiration from Vetements with velour jumpsuits and bolder colors in lieu of the Easter egg pastels that many associate with the brand. It wasn’t a complete collection of throwbacks, however. Mizrahi told Vogue that she wanted to bring back the joy and fun associated with the line, not complete looks. That meant fun, flirty dresses with floaty shapes, puffed sleeves, and ruffles that’ll bring shoppers the same smiles that those bejewelled tracksuits did back in the day. Mizrahi’s stylist roots showed themselves, too, especially when she paired looks with athletic socks and brought back Instagram-ready door-knocker earrings. Everything is set to ring in under $200, making for a particularly wallet-friendly way to relieve the days when PYTs strutted down Robertson Boulevard with their Venti drinks and Ugg boots. It was a simpler time all around, which may be the key to Juicy 2.0.
