After years of drought, California finally caught a break with a slew of winter storms. The result wasn’t just some much-needed H2O in the aquifers, it meant a superbloom of wildflowers in the spring. The sight of poppies and other flowers stretching as far as the eye can see brought in tourists from all over, and Trina Turk was one of them. No stranger to prints, Turk took those flowers and translated them into her spring 2018 collection, creating a mashup of botanics, Pucci-esque swirls and spirals, and a dash of madras plaid for good measure.

Turk staples like caftans and breezy tops were present and accounted for, but the SoCal designer did inject some au courant details like puffed sleeves and embroidery. There was a focus on separates, however, which begged for mixing and clashing, especially when the designer added a bold Madras plaid or black-and-white check to the mix.

While the looks as they are may not be or everyone, Turk’s never shied away from encouraging her customer to play and mix things up. A head-to-toe pattern looks great on Vogue.com, but in real life, it’s more likely that shoppers pick up a floral halter and Turk’s solid wide-leg pants to wear it with. For anyone that has the luxury of living it up on resorts year-round, there’s plenty of cruise and loungewear for the taking. Chalk that up to Palm Springs and Palm Beach customers, who are Turk’s bread and butter.

For the men, Turk used many of the same bold prints and colors. Mr. Turk also introduced kilts, which are a nice foil to guys who have plenty of rompers already. The Mr. Turk guy has no problem trying out new things, so a kilt may be just thing to add a little something new to his rotation. For the more sedate shoppers, there are marinère sweaters, plaid trousers, and though they weren’t in the presentation, we assume lots and lots of swimwear.
