After stops in Brooklyn, Monaco and Tokyo, Raf Simons is bringing Dior’s globe-trotting Resort presentation to Los Angeles. Though the venue hasn’t been announced just yet, reports indicate that the show will take place on May 9 and given the proximity to pure star power, we expect that brand ambassadors Charlize Theron and Jennifer Lawrence might be able to fit the presentation into their packed agendas.

Simons has previously proclaimed his love for Los Angeles, calling it “relaxing and calm, like Antwerp.” In addition, the designer has tapped L.A.’s best and brightest in the past. Resident artist Sterling Ruby not only designed the interior of Simons’ namesake store in Tokyo back in 2008, but also helped set the stage of Raf’s menswear show last year with large scale sculptures and lent a few prints to the collection’s coats. He has also enlisted artist Brian Calvin for his eponymous label in exclusive pieces for Mr. Porter.

Huge labels such as Dior and Chanel have long held their off-season shows in exotic locations and more often than not, the collections themselves are tied to the cities that they’re shown in. Last season, Raf showed a grand prix-inspired show in Monaco and in the past, Chanel’s Metiers d’Arts presentations have been held in Dallas and Dubai, complete with Indian headdresses and Sharia law-abiding hemlines.

With Simons joining the contingent of L.A.-obsessed designers, which include Jeremy Scott, who runs his own line as well as Moshino from our fair city, as well as Hedi Slimane and soon, Tom Ford, who will show his latest womenswear collection during Oscar season, it’s an exciting time for the West Coast fashion set.
