Outfit Inspiration: Dianna Agron’s Louis Vuitton Dress at L.A.’s MOCA Gala

It was only a matter of time until we’d see on of Nicholas Ghesquiere’s creations for Louis Vuitton on one of Hollywood’s pretty young things. Last week, the honor went to Glee actress Dianna Agron, who arrived at Los Angeles’ Museum of Contemporary Art gala wearing a mixed media cocktail dress straight off of Vuitton’s Fall 2014 runway.

Agron, who has developed the not-so-unwelcome reputation as a fashion darling (earlier this year she was spotted in a pearl-embellished Cushnie et Ochs frock and she’s stated that she’s a fan of labels such as Suno and Ohne Titel) kept her look simple with leather ankle boots and a long belt, letting the rich texture of her dress take center stage. Feathers, technical fabric (a Ghesquiere signature) and clean lines made this dress a winner for the actress and is sure to set the tone for Vuitton collections to come. Another way to let a dress really shine? Skip out on accessories, which is exactly what Agron did — no bag, no bling, no problem.

ASTR Print Maxi Skirt

ASTR Print Maxi Skirt

It’s tough to get a head-to-toe replica of something as intricate as Agron’s Louis Vuitton dress, but you can get the same textural, mixed-media look with the ASTR Print Maxi Skirt ($68). Not only is a skirt a more versatile pick — pair it with a denim jacket and tank if you’re looking to dodge the paprazzi or add a structured blazer to give any business look a little boho glam — we think this easy, breezy maxi length is perfect for summertime occasions whether you’re headed to a music festival or just need something to wear to a backyard barbecue. This great print recalls the feathered panels on Agron’s dress and has a super slimming effect that’ll let you breathe easy.

Available at Nordstrom.

1. Pair a busy print with something simple, but don’t think a black tank is all you need. Try something textured such as the ASTR Embroidered V-Back Tank ($52) to make things just a little more interesting.

2. And while Agron eschewed embellishment, one trend we loved from the Vuitton runway was the statement earring. Ghesquiere sent a few models out with just one big dangler, leaving the other ear free of any extra bling. So snatch the Alexis Bittar Miss Havisham Chandelier Earrings ($245) but try wearing just one for an edgy look.

3. Another Ghesquiere trademark? High tech materials in unexpected combos, just like the mashup of lucite and gold in the Alexis Bittar Small Lucite Hinge Bangle ($155).

4. If you’ve got an extra-long black belt, try wearing it with the long end flipped under like Agron did — it’s a styling trick we saw on the runways at Chloé, Céline and Louis Vuitton. If you want the look without the hassle, this tasseled MICHAEL Michael Kors belt ($88) does the trick.

5. For a richly textured take on Agron’s bold ankle boots, we love the House of Harlow 1960 Rilie Booties ($225). The bold heel and textured snake effect are just one more way to make an outfit a little bit richer.
