Shopping L.A.’s French Revolution

Let them eat cake? For once, we’ll skip dessert, because there’s something much more enticing happening on L.A.’s trendy Beverly Boulevard. Three French standbys have opened up shop, allowing Angelenos a chance to practice their French and take some style cues from Gallic gals and their go-to spots. Contemporary labels Iro, Sandro and Maje have landed within walking distance of one another, so the only thing missing is Fashion Trends Daily’s Editor-in-Chief’s New York secret, Comptoire de Cottoniers. But while we wait for that last piece of the puzzle, we’re giving you the rundown of these new French imports.

Iro Beverly Drive

Iro Beverly Drive

La Nouvelle: Iro is the newest kid on the block, having opened just a few weeks ago. Think of Iro as France’s answer to our very own Rag & Bone. French shoppers flock to their Iro locations for leather jackets, straightforward basics and the type of clothes you wear until they’re threadbare and still can’t bear to part with (chambray shirts and oxford cloth shirt dresses par example) The store has an industrial feel and there’s a focus on denim here that Angelenos are sure to appreciate. Taking Ron Herman’s former spot on Beverly, the shop has a full line of contemporary offerings for men and women, including ready-to-wear along with bags and shoes. This is the first location for the brand on the West Coast, but like most French imports, Iro has been keeping New Yorkers outfitted from their store in SoHo.

Et Plus: While the Beverly Drive store is just getting settled in, the brand already has plans for a second location in Venice Beach.

Iro is located at 325 North Beverly Drive. For more information, visit www.iro.fr.

Sandro Beverly Drive

Sandro Beverly Drive

Les Deux: Sandro is one of FTD’s must-visit spots in New York City. But the French brand has decided to grace Los Angeles with not one, but two spots. Beverly Drive and Beverly Center both got a lesson in French dressing when Sandro opened two stores almost simultaneously (a week apart if you want to get specific). If Iro is for fans of Rag & Bone, we say that Sandro has Helmut Lang’s clientele happy to have another brand to shop. There are buttery leather jackets, quirky fabric treatments and plenty of sleek basics to have you completely outfitted for work as well as a very French take on cocktail: fit and flare, leather accents and plenty of inky black LBDs. If you count Carine Roitfeld as a spirit animal, this is the spot for you. Guys can get in on the action, too, with a limited selection available at the Beverly Drive location.

Et Plus: While we have a soft spot for standalone stores, shop the Beverly Center location for a tight edit of the brand’s latest offerings.

Sandro is located at 310 North Beverly Drive. For more information, visit us.sandro-paris.com.

Maje Beverly Hills

Maje Beverly Hills

La Vie Bohème: If Sandro and Iro are where French femmes shop for workwear, Maje is where they head for their off-duty uniforms. The most bohemian of the bunch, Maje is more laid-back, a little more relaxed and much more quintessentially L.A. In fact, recent collections have been inspired by Sofia Coppola and her films Somewhere and The Bling Ring as well as road trips through California, the desert and festival life. And while Sandro and Iro have goods for guys and girls, Maje is strictly a girl’s shopping spot. Along with flowing dresses, on-trend jumpsuits and accessories, you’ll find flirty cocktail dresses, leather jackets and more among the fringed bags, booties and layered necklaces.

Et Plus: You can also shop Maje at the Beverly Center, but if you want to truly embody the boho spirit, make a trip out to the desert, where you’ll find a Maje outlet at Desert Hills.

Maje is located at 350 North Beverly Drive. For more information, visit us.maje.com.
