Vera Wang made waves when she opened up her bridal salon and boutique on Melrose Avenue. It was, after all, the very first place in the world where you could browse the venerable designer’s ready-to-wear alongside her legendary bridal collection. Well, after a few years in West Hollywood, Wang has decided to move shop to Rodeo Drive, and she’s bringing all of the goods with her.
The store, which joins the booming retail shake up on Rodeo (DSquared2 is set to open soon and Rodeo recently welcomed a Tory Burch flagship), will continue to bring shoppers the unique combination of frothy wedding gowns and Wang’s signature romantic-meets-sporty — she was a figure skater, remember? — ready-to-wear.
In a risky retail move, the new boutique will have no windows, “Which for a retailer is a very ballsy thing to do—especially on Rodeo,” Wang told WWD. “I wanted a sense of mystery that encouraged people to come in and explore.”
And when shoppers do step inside and explore, they’ll find a 5,500-square-foot space that’s dedicated to every branch of Wang’s brand. Upstairs is a private wedding salon, where blushing brides can choose from classic white and ivory Vera Wang designs to the latest bridal collections, which have included everything from tulle rose-embellished skirts to bright red hues and deep, gothic black tulle overlays. Downstairs, the main floor plays host to the designer’s new shoe line, bold accessories, eyewear collections and her range of ready-to-wear, which earned the designer a Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award from the CFDA last year.
Eager brides and fans of Wang’s etherial designs can shop the new store when it opens this Saturday.
Vera Wang is located at 428 North Rodeo Drive, in Beverly Hills. For more information, visit www.verawang.com.
