One of the East Coast’s most popular workouts has finally landed here in L.A. FlyBarre, the body sculpting craze from the indoor cycling giant FlyWheel, has opened its first studio inside West Hollywood’s FlyWheel. Angelenos have been waiting for months for the opening, and we’re here to say that the studio — and the workout — doesn’t disappoint.
FlyBarre’s got an extensive schedule that means you can workout before or after work, with classes starting at 6:16 am and the last one clocking in at 7:30 pm. You can also choose from a quicker Power 45 class (which is, coincidentally, 45 minutes long) or the longer, more intensive FlyBarre 60 workout.
Feel a little intimidated? Maybe you haven’t ever done a barre cardio class before. Don’t worry, because the staff at FlyBarre is all about making you feel comfortable no matter what your fitness level. Each class incorporates high-energy music and the studio has floor-to-ceiling windows that let in natural light so you don’t feel like you’re stuck in an industrial space (like you do when you’re in a CrossFit class).
“FlyBarre is inclusive yet it’s exclusive; we welcome everybody, but because there are only 18 to 20 mats in our studio, you feel like it’s an exclusive experience,” said FlyBarre marketing coordinator and instructor Alyssa Mandell. “Smaller classes also allow our instructors to give individual corrections, because if your form is off, you can potentially really hurt yourself. Here, you’re always in good hands.”
We know because Mandell worked us out — and hard. But we appreciated how encouraging she was, even though we were all practically crying for help!
If you’ve worked up the courage and core strength to sign up, know that FlyBarre all classes come ready with mats, towels, water, weights, resistance bands, therapy balls and other props for everyone to use. The new studio also has showers (with Bliss products) and lockers available so you can head out and go about your day without another stop at home. Expect a core-intensive workout that’ll have you sweating, stretching and working with weights so you sculpt, tone and lengthen your body without adding bulk. And if you don’t have any ballet experience, don’t worry, because Mandell and the other instructors are more than happy to show you the moves — you’ll be a FlyBarre pro in no time at all.
