Kate Spade is Expanding its Home Goods Offerings

There are a lot of changes happening at Kate Spade. Recently, the brand has announced the shuttering of all of its Jack Spade locations, taking that brand into department stores and specialty boutiques only, as well as having Kate Spade Saturday, a sub-brand launched just a few year ago, absorbed into its main line. It’s set to join its big sister at Kate Spade New York stores nationwide. But while the brand is cleaning house, Kate Spade has also announced that it’s expanding into home goods and furniture, which moves the preppy and poppy label one kitten-heeled step closer to being a bonafide lifestyle line in the vein of Ralph Lauren.

“We are intently focused on our two key axes of growth – product category expansion and geographic expansion – and reaching customers across our four category pillars, women’s, men’s, children’s and home,” said Craig A. Leavitt, CEO of Kate Spade and Company. “This robust expansion of home decor offerings under the Kate Spade New York brand is an important step towards our vision of becoming a powerful, global, multichannel lifestyle brand.”

Currently, the brand offers up a small selection of lifestyle items in its bright stores, including stationery and paper products done in collaboration with Lifeguard Press as well as glasswear and table wear, a collaboration with Lenox. The expansion includes working with Lenox on additional entertaining and food prep items, under the collection All in Good Taste. The expanded kitchen collection is expected to hit stores in August.

But the biggest jump that the brand is making will be into the realm of furniture and rugs. It’s not a move that’s common for fashion lines. After all, Coach, Michael Kors and Tory Burch, which are seen as Kate Spade’s biggest competition, don’t offer sofas and side tables — yet. Along with bedding, pillows and decorative items (maybe this was what that Kate Spade Saturday x West Elm collab was previewing), speciality retailers and Kate Spade’s own website will begin to offer up Kate Spade New York beds, wallpaper, rugs and even fabric beginning in May.

So far, Kate Spade collabs have all been met with success — the line’s beauty offerings with Poppy King have a cult following, the line’s collaboration with Gap Kids was a major commercial success and Kate Spade Saturdays’ work with New Balance and West Elm have all been stellar — so most are expecting the Midas moment to continue for the brand, especially since its been building a loyal and dedicated fan base for the last decade by expanding into watches, jewelry and more. What would be more apropos than slipping into Kate Spade sheets after a long day in your Kate Spade heels?
