Oscar de la Renta is known as one of the most elegant designers in the game today. Let other designers experiment with gothic fantasias, animal masks and Lady Gaga’s stage costumes — because Oscar is all about creating beautiful, feminine clothes that people can wear anywhere, red carpet to real life. Since its inception, the brand has grown and today, it includes a range of perfumes, shoes and accessories and a growing home goods line. Recently, Oscar announced that he’d found someone new to bring that category even more growth: Carolina Irving.
“I am incredibly excited to work with Oscar,” says Irving. “His style is iconic; if any fashion designer has legitimacy to do home, it’s Oscar. He has the most fantastic sense of color and scale.”
Irving, who currently has her own fabric collection, also writes “In the Air,” a column inT magazine. A tastemaker through and through, her resumé includes stints at Vogue Living as well as House and Garden. Previously, Irving studied art history at the Louvre in Paris. In her new position, she will oversee the entire Oscar de la Renta Home line, which runs the gamut from giftable items such as picture frames and jewelry boxes to larger categories such as tableware and even home furnishings. If de la Renta’s fellow designers are any indication, Irving might just be in charge of future endeavors for the brand, such as paint, luxury resorts and more.
“I can think of no better person than Carolina to continue to develop our Home collection,” says Oscar de la Renta. “Her taste is fabulous.”
Carolina replaces the current Creative Director of Home, Miles Redd, who brought color, whimsical patterns and more to Oscar’s line and expanded it to include furnishings and more. He’s most known for his innovative patterns (as well as integrating Oscar’s signature patterns into homegoods such as wine goblets, printed pillows and more), which we’re sure he’ll be bringing to his own interior design business. So if you’re in love with Oscar’s current offerings of leopard champagne flutes and flower-ringed photo frames, stock up — but we’re all waiting to see what Irving’s bringing to the table, the living room and more.
