Rodeo Drive’s renaissance continues with the opening of the very first DSquared2 store in America. After almost 20 years of giving the fashion world plenty of cheeky runway shows and statement dresses, the Canadian brand is set to expand into the American retail scene. The Rodeo Drive boutique is just the first step — DSquared2 is set to open two more stores by the end if 2014.

Previously, DSquared2 was only available in department and specialty stores, and the Los Angeles flagship is the only spot where the brand can showcase its entire offering in one place.

“Americans are the highest percentage of our customers online, and the highest percentage comes from L.A. We’re coming to fulfill a need,” Dan Caten, owner and creative director of the brand along with his twin brother, Dean, told WWD. “When we came in and ripped out the ceilings, we discovered these 30-foot-high lofty spaces, so we kept the exposed tubing and brick and let that guide us.”

Created in partnership with design firm Storage, the store blends slick, modern architectural details with the outdoors, a reminder of the brand’s Canadian roots. The facade features double story windows and poured concrete behind black glass. Inside, the 4,500-square foot space is divided into two levels and houses the men’s and women’s collections alongside accessories and a special capsule collection of special occasion gowns.

Shoppers can browse apparel, shoes, underwear and fragrance by exploring the store on a runner designed to look like a forest path and discover items tucked away in architectural elements such as cage dividers and tall screens fitted with vertical metal rods. Fitting rooms are outfitted with lush velvet armchairs and Okumè wood trunks along with digitally printed recreations of Canadian vistas.

DSquared2’s American expansion continues with a second store slated to open this December in New York. It will be located at the corner of Spring Street and Broadway in SoHo and will be the brand’s largest store globally, coming in at 6,467 square feet. The Miami store, which is set to open at the Bal Harbour Shops, has its opening set to coincide with Art Basel in early December. DSquared2 Rodeo Drive joins the newly opened Saint Laurent Paris women’s flagship as well as new openings from Vera Wang, Tory Burch, Zadig & Voltaire, Jimmy Choo and more.
