This Valentine’s Day, the biggest thing to happen to the written word since Harry Potter is moving from the page to the silver screen with the film adaptation of E.L. James’ 50 Shades of Grey. If you’ve read the book — and admit it, you’ve done more than just skim the pages — you’ll know that there’s a certain necktie in the story that’s used for something other than mere male peacocking. Guys can get the real deal and channel their inner Christian Grey, because the tie used in the film for those pivotal scenes is from hometown shirtmaker Anto of Beverly Hills.
Anto of Beverly Hills has been supplying Hollywood’s leading men (Frank Sinatra included) with custom shirts — and ties — for over 50 years. It’s a family business. Co-owner Jack Sepetjian’s father, Anto, started the shop, which has grown along with its glittering clientele.
Sepetijan told the L.A. Times that the store provided the film’s crew and Jamie Dornan, that would be Christian Grey himself, with shirts for filming, but that’s not all. The necktie that’s prominently featured on the movie’s posters and in the trailer is also by Anto, and just to be safe, the store crafted over four dozen of the silver ties for use in the film.
While Sepetijan and his team aren’t telling guys — and the girls who are buying up these ties — exactly what to do with them, traditional methods of wearing one are encouraged, though we’re sure that after the film’s premiere, more than one of these ties will be knotted up in some not so conventional ways.
To make things easy (though that’s definitely not Christian Grey’s M.O.), Anto’s e-commerce site has the tie avaialable for $185. It’s also available in-store.
Anto of Beverly Hills is located at 258 North Beverly Drive, in Beverly Hills. For more information, visit www.antoshirt.com.
