Inside Bonobos’ New L.A. Guideshop
Guys, the wait is over. We’ve teased you with the opening of L.A.’s very first Bonobos Guideshop, but starting today you can head over to La Brea to get a taste of the brand’s new concept shop for yourself. The Los Angeles Guideshop, which brings the world of Bonobos’ e-commerce into a click-and-mortar shop, gives you access to the brand’s entire inventory, including cult-favorite chinos, shorts, shirting and swimwear and a taste of the its golf line, Maide.

A word of note: Bonobos’ Guideshops are not your usual store. There is no actual inventory on hand. Yes, we repeat: No inventory on hand. If you’re interested in shopping, the best way is to hop online to make an appointment with a Guide (though walk-ins are welcome and most definitely encouraged). During the appointment, you will be led through the shop one-on-one by a Bonobos guide who will talk fit, fashion and finding the pieces to fill in holes in your wardrobe or new pieces that you can add to your weekly rotation. During our preview, our Guide explained the brand’s different fits (for shirts and those famed pants) and walked us through the brand’s seasonal offerings, which included print shorts, swim and short-sleeved shirts perfect for Palm Beach getaways. You’re order should arrive in 4-5 business days.

In addition to belts, ties and other accessories from the label, an expanded collection of men’s accessories is also in the works — including those from other labels such as Grenson shoes, vintage sunglasses from Vuarnet (Remember those?) and more. And the brand’s denim? It’s made right here in L.A., from the stretchy comfort of Bonobos’ Travel Jeans (with 1% spandex) to the line’s Premium and Selvedge denim, both made from cone denim and designed to satisfy even the pickiest denimheads.
The store, which has a modular design that allows for shifting displays, shelving and tables, is bright and airy and filled with furniture that’s sourced right here in the City of Angels. Guys can also relax on a custom sofa designed by local furniture designer Stephen Kenn, who created a one-of-a-kind piece that takes cues from his Inheritance Collection and is upholstered in Bonobos’ signature navy, garment-dyed chino fabric. There’s also a collection of curated artwork on the walls from artists Millee Tibbs and Ashok Sinha, courtesy of Uprise Art.

The store is the first Bonobos Guideshop in Southern California, but that’s not the only first that you’ll get to experience inside. The Bonobos Guideshop La Brea has a little something special to satisfy social media-savvy shoppers. Integrated into one of the mirrors inside the store, there’s a custom photo booth that features a special photo mirror which offers shoppers the chance to take a full-length selfie wearing the new items they’ve picked with their Bonobos guide. The first of its kind in the country, the mirror was designed in collaboration with Brooklyn-based company The SELFY. Guys can then review the selfies on the mirror’s custom iPad app and have the images sent to their e-mail or smartphones. (Hint: perfect for sending to your significant other for approval.) Shoppers can even opt to receive prints with their sizes recorded in addition to the e-mail for future reference.
