Monday Muse: Rebecca Minkoff’s Boho L.A. Spectacular

It looks like the West Coast really is the best coast. A slew of designers are forgoing New York Fashion Week for the sun, fun, and surf of California — and we’re here to welcome them with open arms. Cali girl Rebecca Minkoff took her show on the road this season, taking over The Grove in L.A. for a weekend-long extravaganza that culminated with a fashion show featuring the brand’s spring 2017 collection — and it was all available to purchase right away. See now, buy now? More like instant gratification, because we all know her legion of loyal Minkettes can’t wait to get their hands on the latest and greatest.

#RMGoesGrove included everything from yoga classes to expert panels and appearances from influencers, but the real draw was the clothes. This season, Minkoff looked at her fans for inspiration and outfitted models and influencers alike in wearable combinations of boho frocks, cutoff shorts, and more that made the show look more like hip L.A. babes strutting their stuff than a formal fashion presentation. After all, these girls know how to rock and outfit, so Minkoff’s offerings were just the icing on the cake.

While some of the clothes on display were already shown a few months ago during a NYFW presentation, they were sprinkled in with new additions and new accessories. Standouts included phone cases with crossbody straps, ultra-embellished guitar straps put on just about every style of bag, and plenty of Coachella-ready sandals and platforms. The common thread was an ease and casual air that marks California’s signature style, but what’s more, it was all photogenic and ready for social-media feeds. After all, did you even wear the newest Minkoff if you didn’t post it to Instagram? The brand sits comfortably in a space that’s trend-driven, so there were prairie prints and maxis, but because her customers love a good investment piece, there were statement jackets and suede skirts that’ll last a lifetime. Front-row guests Chiara Ferragni, Camila Alves, Jessica Stam, and Jessica Szohr couldn’t get enough — and neither could the fans that crowded to catch the show.
