Trendsetters: Retail Dynamo Elyse Walker

Retailer Elyse Walker, owner of her eponymous boutique in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles, is as colorful as the gads of celebrity clientele who frequent her 6,500-square-foot temple of designer delights. Looking for coveted footwear from Alaia? Absoulement! They have it, along with girls who literally make pilgrimages to hang out with their favorite styles. (We do not jest!) Tailored coats from Givenchy? Got it. Chloe? Course. McQueen crystal-studded minaudières? Mais, oui!

When we popped in recently, Renee Zellweger was just popping out with the trademark Elyse Walker silver bag in tow. And that’s just an amuse bouche of Hollywood A-listers that have been loyally shopping the 11-year-old boutique on Antioch Street. This is not counting Walker’s annual Pink Party to benefit gynecological and breast cancer, which has become a veritable who’s who of Hollywood — and raised over $4 million to boot!

Fresh from the New York shows and preparing for Paris Fashion Week to see the shows from Givenchy, Valentino, Stella McCartney, YSL, Chloe and more, the self-proclaimed “more is more” gal (our favorite kind!), dished with Fashion Trends Daily on the trends she’s buying for fall, the perils of kitten heels, insider Paris spots, what’s she’s packing in her Balenciega Weekender and when a cross is not really a cross! Hint: When it’s from Chanel. Read on…

Elyse Walker

What trends are you buying for the store for fall? I always start with the shoe, and I’m going with hiking boots with treads and laces. It’s Everest gone wild! Alaia had it last year, so I’m going to credit them with the trend. For Spring, platforms or kitten heels? Platforms. My customer doesn’t want to be short. Once you wear a platform, no one wants to give up that height. What are you packing for zee Paris shows? A lot of McQueen tops with skinny leggings, and a lot of Givenchy. Outfit of choice for the plane? I’ll definitely be wearing some Lilies by Rick Owens.

Valise of choice: Croc Balenciega Weekender bag with silver hardware. It’s worth every penny, and I wouldn’t trade it for a Birkin! [FTD fans: In case you’re wondering, the yellow one pictured went for about $22,500. They are custom made, so call the boutique to order. Operators are standing by!]

Une Valise ou doux? I always squeeze everything into one and then they charge me like $500 extra [because of the weight], so this time I’m taking two.

Favorite fashion haunts in Paris: Montaigne Market [57, Avenue Montaigne, Eighth Arr.] I’ve sent a lot of customers there; Isabel Marant in the Marais; and Scarlett near the Georges V hotel [10 Rue-Clément Marot, Eighth Arr.]. All they carry is vintage Chanel jewelry, and I always get one piece there.

Coveted find at Scarlett? A Chanel [cross] pendant. I’m Jewish, so I don’t wear a cross, but I do wear a “plus.”

Avenue Montaigne

Avenue Montaigne

Colette [boutique]: Overrated or underrated? Overrated, but it’s great for inspiration.

Favorite spot to nosh in Paris: Chez Andre, also by the Georges V, and Diep for the best Chinese food you’ve ever had in your entire life!

Drink of choice: Sancerre

Madonna with lace gloves

Trend she’d like to resurrect: [’80s] Madonna. I want to wear the lace gloves.

And, of course, we’re sure that Walker would get into the groove with a “plus” pendant, no less! “For inspiration, C’mon, C’mon!”
